First Date Jitters
Ok guys, does this situation sound familiar?
You waited for the right opportunity to approach a hot guy you recently met, and when you asked him if he wanted to have dinner, he accepted. Now you have a big date tonight, and you're a mess. You don't know what to wear - nothing looks right. Your mouth is completely dry, your stomach is turning, and you feel absolutely out of your mind. What if you say something stupid? Or don't look good enough? What if he turns you down for another date?
Relax.
No, I really mean it. Relax. That's all you have to do. Getting yourself worked up, or contemplating the "what ifs", is not going to help you out. It's going to make you act like someone other than yourself, and cause you to miss out on the fun you could be having on the date.
Dating is all about getting to know someone else. If you're not acting like your natural self, then you are not going to portray the "real you" to the person you are trying to get to know. First impressions mean a great deal in the world of dating. Don't make the mistake of being one of the following personality disasters when you're on your date.
The Mute You won't hear a peep from The Mute. Literally. The Mute tends to be shy and awkward. The prospect of saying something wrong frightens him - so he says nothing at all. The Mute means well, and may like you a great deal, but you'd never know it because he won't open up. His quietness is often mistaken for snobbery or aloofness, and you may never get to know The Mute unless you work hard to bring out his true self. Unfortunately, most people lose the patience to do so, and therefore The Mute misses out on some promising possibilities. Don't be The Mute. You'll regret it one day.
The Self-centered Creep This is the guy who asks you what you want to do on a date - however, you soon find out that he has the whole thing planned already. Instead of going to a nice restaurant like you suggested, The Self-centered Creep is taking you to some shady bar to sit with his friends. He ignores you while he chugs down drink after drink. You find yourself holding him up to walk to the car, and then you have to drive him home. The only good part of the evening is that you lose the hunger pains in your stomach after he gets sick in your car. I don't think I need to explain why you shouldn't be The Self-centered Creep.
The Nervous Wreck The Nervous Wreck can be spotted a mile away. Yes, he's the one trying to take a sip of his beer without causing the glass to shake too much in his trembling hand. He's stuttering, avoiding eye contact, and sweating profusely. If only he realized that dating is supposed to be fun. If you're the Nervous Wreck, lighten up! Laugh, smile, and make your date fun. Otherwise, your date is going to make fun of you.
The Desperate Fool The Desperate Fool loves your eye color. He loves your clothes, your smile, your teeth, your nose. He's planning a Caribbean get-away with you before the salad is served. By the time dessert comes around, he's already moved you into his apartment. The Desperate Fool is also known as The Pathetic, Insincere, I'll-Do-Anything-To-Be-With-Anyone Loser. Have a little self-respect. Don't be this guy.
So who should you be on a date? Try a charming, smiling, kind, relaxed and fun person. Try being: Yourself! Good luck, and happy dating. About the Author
